Key Accountabilities

Provide front line business support for internal and third-party products and services supported by Securities Operations Technology, participating in Focus Groups and providing guidance to other development areas of Global Wholesale Operations, Global Wealth Management, Global Banking & Markets, Domestic and International Banking. Support Broadridge, SOT and other IT&S GWWT application developers regarding new and existing development and support.
Contribute to the operational effectiveness and productivity of the Global Wholesale Operations units by conceptualizing, evaluating, recommending, and implementing new systems, equipment and procedures identified via user requirements, documentation/reviews and input received from Global Wholesale Operations staff and clients. This includes analyzing the impact new systems will have on the various departments, liaising with users, developing non-standard procedures wherever necessary to adapt new systems and completion of other duties as assigned.
Co-ordinate, prepare and execute automated systems testing of a project cycle from the feasibility stage through to the post conversion/implementation stage by developing project action plans, monitoring progress/ logging test activities throughout Integrated Systems Testing and User Acceptance Testing, recording deviations from plans, preparing test completion reports including recommendations for future improvement.
Administer and document internally and externally system initiated projects and SSRs, Problem Logs, Emergency Change Requests, Project Work Orders, WMSD Intake requests and general system changes including documentation of user requirements, review of design documents, monitoring of schedules and costs and procedural documentation. This includes providing specialized, departmental training relative to new systems/industry changes and for planning, designing and implementing training programs to meet those needs.
Manage multiple small system projects and assist in large system initiatives/enhancements concurrently, preparing business case proposals, providing business specifications, project planning, developing and maintaining test plans and test cases using prescribed tools/formats (e.g. HPQC), conversion and implementation strategies, developing detailed project plans, preparing procedural documentation, securing consensus and co-operation from users and senior management. Maintain timely and meaningful status update in department management tools and project / information portals (e.g. Activity Register, DTS, Sharepoint, JIRA, Confluence).
Liaise with GWO, GBM, GWM (ScotiaMcLeod, Scotia iTRADE, SPCG / Scotiatrust, Scotia Asset Management), and other Executive Office departments, including Domestic and International Banking Operations and report to management on a regular basis regarding the status of on going initiatives, advising any significant hindrance which may preclude or jeopardize completion, along with recommendations for resolution of such.
Assist in resolving complex, multi-faceted problems to meet the system needs of Global Wholesale Operations and Global Wealth Management products and services and their internal and external customers, by applying your business and technological knowledge to analysis, defining user requirements, design and implementation of systems solutions. This may involve rapid prototyping, with requirements and solutions developed on an iterative basis that provides interim deliverables until a final production solution is created.
Provide technical expertise, guidance, advice and knowledge transfer to all development staff on the assigned applications or technology. Provide recommendations on departmental standards surrounding systems architecture, application development, systems integration, data modelling and testing. As well as, perform reviews and walkthroughs on project deliverables ensuring quality and completeness of functionality.

Minimum Requirements:

3 to 5 years of operations and/or technical or business analysis / operational support experience; knowledge of Bank and Investment Dealer related operations, policies and procedures, and of current and proposed systems and procedures;
An investigative, analytical and problem solving ability and sound judgement in order to identify and conceptualise alternatives and recommend possible solutions in the absence of established precedents;
Provide production and user acceptance testing support for technical problems on the assigned applications and technology that serve each business unit. This may require complex problem analysis, recommending and/or implementing solutions and document any new procedures surrounding ongoing support.
For the implementation of both new systems or enhancements, the incumbent must assist in the establishing and execution of system test procedures, development of detailed implementation plans and liason with other groups , such as DBA, IPM, Security and RCM to ensure successful delivery in the production environment. The incumbent will also provide post implementation support during the application “warranty” period.
A good understanding and working knowledge of SQL/UNIX/Scripting/MQ/Networks is required.

Preferred Requirements:

A good understanding of Global Wholesale Operations products and services, and their technology underpinnings, industry’s practices, regulations and conventions
Successful completion of the Canadian Securities Course
Completion of the Canadian Securities Course (CSC) is an asset.
Familiarity with existing systems (Broadridge BPS, Dataphile, GLOSS, IMPACT, Aspire, ICS, Arrow, etc.), equipment and other automated or non-automated procedures; including an understanding of Bank and Broadridge systems development and acceptance testing methodologies.
Experience with Microsoft Project, Visio, SDLC and other project management concepts and tools are a definite asset.
